There is enough recoil and violently-moving parts that the grease/oil will get slung around until it coats enough of the pieces that need a coating. A bath once and a while may be advised.I believe you can go 2 ways to make a CA legal FAL. Either keep the detachable mag and remove the pistol grip and flash suppressor (and keep it over 30") OR you can fix a 10 round mag. And the only thing that you will be registering is the receiver. The first has a full length gas system and shortened Stg barrel. Standard para sights, shoots and functions great since the day I built it, no complaints. Weight, 10lbs even un-loaded, no mag with sling & irons..I couldn't use the DSA Para rear sight with a Type C as I recall. These are uglier but stronger than the others with regard to recoil-related splitting. If you're talking about the two-position sight, I'm not sure why they wouldn't work.
