You should test your parking brake--it may actually be working OK. Other posters found their parking brakes were not locked or dragging even with the message. Listen if you can hear the PB engaging and disengaging. I have been experiencing that same problem with my 2009 "certified" used Toyota Rav4. No it doesn't happen every day, but it seems to happen at the wrong times. If anyone wants to recreate the problem: 1. turn off the car. 2. open the door (thats when I hear the motor engaging the steering column lock, it doesn't do it until the door gets opened) 3. turn the steering wheel and hold it to keep the tension. 4. try to start the car by pushing the button.Some more information: 1) Engine starts fine with the remote starter IF KEY IS IN THE IGNITION.
